Clean Eating Challenge: 10 Best Oatmeal Toppers (Day 26)

Throw away that poptart you were just about to eat. Let go of those eggos as you drop them out the window of your fifth floor apartment, saying your goodbye to junk breakfasts before quickly shutting your window as you hear the cry of an angry pedestrian.

What I’m trying to say is that breakfast is important. Too important to be eating junk food! You can’t be kicking ass and taking names if you’re lethargic from eating processed nonsense.

So here, have some oatmeal. And if you need some fancy shmancy toppings to turn that delicious homemade oatmeal into something people will worship a millennium later when all they have left of our current civilization by are food and health blogs than this one — look no further! These recipes are tried, true, and totally delicious.

I may or may not have been in a sassy Monday morning mood when I came up with all these names. You can compliment my endless wit in the comments section by encouraging me to follow my dreams of being the Don Draper of coming up with Oatmeal names.

1. Cinnamon Banana Butter-Up-The-Fact-That-It’s-Monday

Good morning! It’s Monday!

If that statement seems paradoxical to you, then try this oatmeal. This creamy recipe will help you forget that it’s Monday and remember that your taste buds exist.

-Dash of cinnamon

-1 Banana, Sliced

-1 tbsp almond butter

-1 tbsp flaxseeds

-1 tbsp honey

2. Honey Apple Walnut Crunch-Your-Way-Out-The-Door

Some days I just wake up and want a nutty breakfast to go with my nutty schedule. This fits the bill pretty darn well.

-1/4 cup walnuts

-1/2 apple, thinly sliced

-1 tbsp honey

Optional: 1/4 cup healthy granola cereal (no sugar added, small ingredients list)

3. Berry Blast-Me-Out-Of-Bed

Berries are filled with anti-aging antioxidants that help combat the feeling that you’re approaching your millionth birthday after you stagger out of bed after only 4 hours of sleep.

-1/2 cup plain greek yogurt

-1/2 cup frozen berries

-1/4 cup healthy granola

-1 tbsp honey

4. Bad Radio DJ PB & J

There is always that one radio station you listen to in the morning with the awesome music but annoying DJ/announcer you can’t stand who happens to work puns into every. Single. Sentence.

This recipe goes out to you, pun-obsessed DJs. Please stop.

-2 tbsp peanut butter

-2 tbsp jelly or apple butter

5. Cheer Up Cherry

For those of you who need some cheering up, here’s a delicious cherry oatmeal recipe!

-1/4 cup cherries (I prefer frozen)

-1 tbsp honey

-2 tbsp flaxseeds

-2 tbsp chopped almonds

-dash of cinnamon

6. Rasp-better-don’t-mess-with-me Chocolate Pick Up

If you’re having a really bad morning, this is for you. Chocolate fixes everything.

-1/4 cup hazelnuts

-1 tsp vanilla extract

-1/4 cup raspberries

-1 tbsp honey

-1/4 cup grain-sweetened chocolate chips/dark chocolate chips/or milk chocolate chips if you’re ok with slightly breaking clean eating and can’t find grain-sweetened

7. Fall-Out-Of-Bed Pumpkin Adventure

If you fall out of bed thinking of fall and Halloween and the insignificance of daily routines in spite of it all, this oatmeal is for you.

-1/4 cup pumpkin

-1/2 cup sliced apples

-1/4 chopped pecans

-2 tbsp honey

-dash of cinnamon

8. Cran-We-All-Just-Get-Along-Berry Escape

If your default setting is to argue with people when you wake up in the morning, this is for you.

-1/4 sliced almonds

-1/4 cup dried cranberries

-1 tbsp honey

9. Lemon Meringue Morning Delight

This recipe is for those of you who seem to know where the right side of the bed is and you get up on it every day. Please write the rest of us a map and explain how you can be so cheerful and leave the warm bed that calls to us with its tempting siren song.

-1/2 lemon, sliced

-1/2 lemon, squeezed for the juice

-1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt mixed with 1/2 tsp baking soda. Mix and set aside. This will get light and airy. Then, mix into your oatmeal or top your oatmeal with this after it’s cooked.

-1-4 tbsp honey (to combat the bitterness)

10. Have My Coffee and Eat it Too

For those of you who have a REALLY hard time getting up in the morning (even with a cup of coffee and a few espresso shots) this is for you!

-1 package instant coffee

-1 tbsp honey

-1/4 cup almond milk
