Sometimes, the clean eating lifestyle may feel a little limiting. But never fear! You can clean up any recipe with three simple steps!
Step 1: Replace Sugar with Honey
If you’re baking, check out this guide for instructions on how to replace sugar with honey.
Brown sugar is just white sugar with molasses added, so you have to substitute that out as well!
You can also use agave or maple syrup, although I prefer using honey!
Step 2: Replace White Flour with Whole Wheat
Check out this guide — and know that since whole wheat has a different taste, you may have to do some fancy tricks to get your recipe to turn out the way you want it to. I always up the liquid content (and usually add more Greek yogurt to my recipes) in order for them to taste better. Buy some whole wheat pastry flour as well — that tastes better if you’re making a loaf of bread!
Step 3: Replace Oils and Dressings
I find that Greek Yogurt is a great replacement for mayonnaise in recipes!
Making your own dressing may seem challenging, but it’s not! If you want to make something creamy, start with greek yogurt or a homemade cashew cream sauce (blend cashews + as a base and then add in lemon or orange juice for a fruity twist. You can also do the same by blending vinegar with different ingredients.
Follow the 3-2-1 dressing rule:
- 3 parts balsamic vinegar
- 2 parts strong mustard
- 1 part maple syrup or agave
Good luck and see you guys tomorrow!
